About the Role

We are working with a leading Japanese renewable energy company and are seeking a Head of Engineering to lead a team of expert engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering team in the design, development, and implementation of renewable energy projects in Japan, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project development, finance, operations, and external partners to develop project plans, budgets, and timelines.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance throughout all stages of project development, from site selection and feasibility studies to construction and commissioning.

  • Oversee the procurement of equipment and services, negotiate contracts with suppliers and vendors, and manage relationships to ensure timely delivery and cost-effective solutions.

  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and challenges, and implement strategies to mitigate issues and ensure project milestones are met.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team, encouraging the adoption of new technologies and best practices to optimize project performance and efficiency.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, market developments, and regulatory changes related to renewable energy in Japan, and provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior management.

  • Represent the company in industry conferences, workshops, and other events, building relationships with key stakeholders and promoting the company's reputation as a leader in renewable energy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably with a focus on renewable energy or a related field. Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) is a plus.

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in renewable energy engineering, with a track record of successful project management and delivery.

  • Strong technical expertise in renewable energy technologies, including solar PV, wind turbines, hydroelectric systems, etc.

  • Experience working in the Japanese renewable energy market, with knowledge of local regulations, permitting processes, and market dynamics.

  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire a team, foster collaboration, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and build relationships with internal and external partners.

  • Fluency in Japanese and English is required.
