Job title: Head of Project Management
Location: Tokyo
Main duties:

  • Build and manage the Project Management team
  • Define, implement and improve Project Management and Control processes and standards, ensure consistent execution of project on budget, ahead of schedule and with excellent quality and safety performance
  • Maintain visibility of schedule, budget, quality and safety performance of all projects, work with Project Managers to identify, track and manage project and portfolio level risks
  • Provide regular summary reports of all projects in execution phase to C level management
  • Manage professional development of the Project Management team to ensure that Project Management, and Procurement and Contracting resources are adequately qualified and skilled, mentor resources and manage performance
  • Develop and maintain resourcing plans, allocate resources as required to support activities being lead by the Project Development team
  • Liaison with Head of Technical and Head of Project Development to ensure resourcing requirements are understood and fulfilled across the main preoperations activities
  • Understand the processes and risks associated with the UHV grid connection application and construction process
  • Reports to General Manager, Japan

Essential requirements:

  • Experience in building and managing teams, especially involved in management of industrial projects (ideally grid connected electrical generation or consumption facilities)
  • Understanding and experience with project management and controls (cost and schedule management)
  • Experience completing contract negotiations with local (Japanese) and international suppliers and contractors
  • Right to work in Japan,
  • 10-15 years' professional experience,
  • Able to travel domestically for business.

Desirable requirements:

  • PMP, PRINCE or similar qualification,
  • Experience in power plant development work (not limited to renewable energy and energy storage),
  • Background in civil, electrical or control systems engineering,
  • Experience in negotiating contract terms with government agencies or power companies in Japan,
  • Experience working in English and Japanese.
