Our Client

NextWave is collaborating with a renewable energy developer seeking to appoint a new VP of Business Development in the Philippines. The VP of this department will work closely with other members of the Philippines business development and project teams. This individual will perform various professional-level duties in the following key functional areas:

Purpose:

Liaison with potential partners:

  • Develop relationships with industry players and potential partners for the company in the country
  • Negotiate, structure, and implement one or more strategic partnerships in the Philippines.

Due diligence and analysis of project information:

  • Review and extract relevant project information (project planning, permitting, land/seabed lease, supplier/EPC contracts, grid connection, financing and PPA/offtake agreements)
  • Perform due diligence on this documentation; summarise key technical, commercial and financial risks and opportunities to support the company's financial close / investment committee processes

Develop, review and optimise the project business case:

  • Drive business case development, optimisation and risk management, discussing with partners to form an aligned, factual and realistic case
  • Highlight deviations between the company's investment committee business case (considering DEVEX, CAPEX and OPEX) and evolving realities on-the-ground

Manage third party consultants:

  • Manage contracts and deliverables from technical and regulatory/permitting consultancies, appointing new ones as required

Public and Regulatory Affairs:

  • Develop a strong network with relevant central government departments and drive liaison and influencing initiatives for the company.
  • Manage local stakeholder groups/govt. close to project sites.
  • Deliver analysis and advisory on key renewables policy and regulatory issues, evaluating key project risks and opportunities
  • Contribute to development of the company's identity and public relations in the Philippines

Closely coordinate with the company's investment teams on development:

  • Regular reporting on development status and due diligence
  • Hosting and coordination of project review committees

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in commerce, finance, law, or engineering
  • Key skills: Project, stakeholder, commercial and contract management

The Profile:

  • Min. 10 years with commercial or project management of renewable energy projects; experience with other infrastructure or energy projects will also be considered.
  • Contract negotiation skills
  • Strong commercial, contracts, projects, risk, and business case management experience is a must; technical and operational exposure is also required.
  • Hands-on approach, with the ability to take initiative and work proactively in a fast-changing and sometimes ambiguous environment
  • Ability to work directly with contracts, identify and prioritise commercial issues and discuss them with relevant stakeholders.
  • Strong communicator and ability to document project information and risks in a concise manner, including strong PowerPoint and presentation skills.
  • Able to manage conflict and anticipate potential issues with development partners and external stakeholders; strength of character to stand-up for the company's interests and ways of working as required.
  • Open communication on project developments to shareholders, highlighting evolving risks and challenges with the necessary urgency
  • Fluent English and Tagalog.
