The Technical Manager will be the focal person for offshore wind technical activities in NextWave’s Client’s US offshore wind business unit.

Accountable to coordinate technical activities with the company’s corporate technical teams. The Technical Manager will be leading or supporting the wide range of technical activities in North America.

Support business development managers to identify and execute business opportunities that enable NextWave’s Client to increase its portfolio of offshore wind projects.

Assist the Country Manager to oversee and manage NextWave’s Client’s exposure to technical risks in the company’s projects.

Liaise with subject-matter experts as required to manage specific topics for North American offshore market. The main topics are transmission (offshore and onshore) and grid interconnection.

This role requires thoughtful coordination and close cooperation with NextWave’s Client’s international and US areas as well as its joint venture partners.

Will be based in the Boston office and should expect some travel in the US including occasional visits to the corporate offices in Houston and/or Europe.

Main Accountabilities:

  1. Accountable to coordinate and obtain internal sign-offs regarding the technical assumptions of offshore activities in the US.
  2. Support the business development managers by providing the required technical input.
  3. Lead the transmission development and interconnection process for ongoing initiatives.
  4. Ensure NextWave’s Client is duly represented on the technical committees performed with the company’s partners.
  5. Prepare and manage the spreadsheets collecting technical and commercial assumptions. Proactively coordinate the collection of technical and commercial assumptions from corporate and external stakeholders.
  6. In coordination with corporate commercial team, establish and manage relationships with supply chain players to ensure projects benefit from state-of-the-art technology and competitive commercial terms. Participate in supply chain outreach efforts. Regarding infrastructure, assess and monitor the development of key infrastructure affecting the business development (e.g. ports, transmission) and manage high level relations with key stakeholders.
  7. Prepare offers and provide ad-hoc services to NextWave’s Client’s joint ventures (set up in East and West Coast) to achieve project milestones.
  8. Facilitate communication and coordination of activities with NextWave’s Client’s joint- venture partners. Support the decision-making process to achieve key project milestones.
  9. Represent NextWave’s Client in trade association and industry forums on agenda items related to technical matters.
  10. Produce memos and communicate information continuously and effectively to management and cross-functional teams.
  11. Additional duties as required

Direct Reports:

0-1 direct reports initially.

Travel:

Up to 20-40%, domestically by plane and by car and with short notice. Sporadic international travel is also anticipated.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree. A Master’s degree preferred.
  • Over 7 years of progressively responsible project management experience in the power sector.
  • Experience in offshore wind is a strong plus.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software; knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software preferred.
  • Understanding of US market specificities and ability to liaise with subject-matter experts as required. Examples of specific topics for US offshore market are: transmission (offshore and onshore), grid interconnection, federal permitting, Jones-Act, etc.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and perform job tasks in a relatively unstructured environment with little supervision.
  • Commercially driven with strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Flexibility to communicate with other team members
  • Ability to quickly understand the basics of a variety of subjects relating to wind and
  • solar energy, including resource studies, environmental and cultural studies, transmission issues, public relations, public policy, sales, and civil and electrical engineering

  • Lifting: Ability to frequently lift items weighing up to 10 pounds and to occasionally lift items weighing between 20 and 40 pounds
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to frequently perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching approximately 75% of the time while on wind farm sites
