About the Role

We are working with a renewable developer with plans to deliver an aggressive pipeline in Japan and are seeking a Project Director to oversee the delivery of their utility scale projects in Japan.


Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Development:

    • Lead the strategic planning and development of utility-scale renewable energy projects in Tokyo, Japan, from site identification to feasibility assessment.
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and community interests.
    • Conduct thorough market analysis and risk assessments to inform project decision-making and optimize resource allocation.
  2. Project Management:

    • Manage all aspects of project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
    • Oversee the procurement process for equipment, services, and permits necessary for project implementation.
    • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  3. Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, landowners, utilities, and regulatory bodies.
    • Represent the company in negotiations, public hearings, and community outreach initiatives to address concerns and build support for renewable energy projects.
  4. Technical Expertise:

    • Stay abreast of advancements in renewable energy technologies, market trends, and regulatory developments relevant to utility-scale projects.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, leveraging your expertise in solar, wind, or other renewable energy technologies.
  5. Compliance and Reporting:

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, permits, and contractual obligations throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Prepare and submit regular progress reports, financial forecasts, and performance metrics to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, business administration, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (7+ years) in utility-scale renewable energy project development and management, preferably in Japan or the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, project finance, permitting processes, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build consensus and foster collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Japanese and English languages, both written and verbal.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credentials are a plus.
