About the Role

We are working with an exciting renewable & clean energy startup company which is focused on green hydrogen and ammonia in Japan / APAC and are seeking a Project Development Specialist / Senior Manager to join their growing team of experts.


Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate potential land sites for the implementation of the Company's business strategy.
  • Negotiate land acquisitions and execute lease agreements, along with other relevant site contracts, while fostering positive relationships with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders to facilitate project approval processes.
  • Oversee project permitting and ensure compliance with zoning regulations, coordinating site and environmental studies, diligence, and interconnection processes with internal and external professionals.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and negotiate contracts and documents with relevant parties for project development purposes, ensuring timely reporting and effective management.
  • Manage risk by identifying and mitigating potential hazards throughout the project lifecycle, adhering to local HSE regulations, and presenting findings to management.
  • Coordinate project deliverables with technical advisors and internal teams from other regions to ensure seamless integration of the company's project expertise.
  • Develop and manage day-to-day project development tasks, including schedule and cost control, and represent projects in local project development meetings with management and/or teams from other regions.
  • Stay informed about new developments, regulations, and policies within the local hydrogen and ammonia operations, applying this knowledge to project planning and development.


Requirements

  • Legal residency and physical presence in the greater Tokyo area.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemical, construction, project management, or related fields.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of solid expertise in the renewable energy industry, particularly in hydrogen or ammonia supply chain, green infrastructure development, or related sectors.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations such as "電気事業法" and "高圧ガス保安法" is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in project planning and management tools such as MS Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating resilience and flexibility.
  • Native proficiency in Japanese and business-level proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally if required.
