About the Role

We are working with an exciting renewable & clean energy startup company which is focused on green hydrogen and ammonia in Japan / APAC and are seeking Energy Policy and Business Analyst / Manager to join their growing team of experts.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze current and prospective government policies, subsidy programs, and incentives issued by relevant authorities like METI, MLIT, MOE, JOGMEC, and NEDO, among others, to support the execution of the Company's business model.
  • Cultivate and sustain robust connections with key government officials, agencies, and local authorities to ensure prompt and effective access to information. Facilitate important interactions and high-level meetings between involved parties as necessary.
  • Produce detailed reports and presentations for management and team updates, outlining policy trends and specifics regarding subsidies and incentives relevant to any aspect of the company's value chain. Emphasize timely delivery and alignment with the company's strategic goals.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external experts to identify and integrate pertinent assumptions into the company's business model, conducting scenario analyses as needed.
  • Prepare and submit application packages for identified subsidies and incentive programs available in Japan. Maintain ongoing communication with relevant authorities to secure approvals.
  • Engage in meetings and forums with government entities, agencies, municipalities, and other stakeholders in the sector. Take a leading role in interactions mandated by local laws or necessary for smooth business implementation. Share insights and progress updates with management and team members across different regions as appropriate.



Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, political science, business management, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferable.
  • Substantial expertise in the renewable energy and energy transition sector with a minimum of 3-5 years' experience, specifically in:
    • the hydrogen or ammonia supply chain industry,
    • green infrastructure development, such as solar, wind, and other alternative energy sources,
    • or sectors like thermal power, water, chemicals, industrial gases, or oil & gas.
  • Strong familiarity with the structure of the Japanese government, regulatory processes, key legislation, and subsidy/incentive programs relevant to the company's sector.
  • Thorough understanding of the local energy market and opportunities related to decarbonization, including renewable energy certificates, long-term decarbonization power source auctions, and carbon pricing markets.
  • Proficient in business modeling, with advanced skills in MS Excel, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data analysis tools, for in-depth model analysis and business forecasting.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation abilities in multicultural environments.
  • Capability to work autonomously, demonstrating resilience and adaptability.
  • Native proficiency in Japanese and business-level proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally if necessary.
