NextWave’s client is a utility-scale electricity storage project developer, owner, and operator. They are seeking a Developer to join their growing team. The Developer will manage all aspects of development of the development portfolio of utility scale battery storage projects from site acquisition through to Notice to Proceed for construction.

Responsibilities

  • Use software tools and coordinate with the quantitative team to research and locate land opportunities
  • Negotiate site control agreements with landowners
  • Coordinate with team members and manage external contractors to permit projects and perform other development tasks as needed to develop large scale battery storage projects
  • Lead responses to energy storage RFPs and manage potential offtake and hedge opportunities
  • Frequent travel across the domestic United States, working with local stakeholders including landowners, local governments, economic development entities, permitting authorities, utilities, and others
  • Comfort with interacting with disparate groups and hearing different perspectives is essential
  • In some cases, the Developer will be the primary point of contact between the project, the company, and the community. The ability to communicate professionally, respectfully, and effectively between the three is also essential
  • Additional responsibilities include monitoring energy storage regulation/policy, creating and maintaining battery project financial models and potential cross-training across asset management, fundamental market analysis and quantitative modelling

Requirements

  • 10+ years of power and utilities experience with exposure to utility scale energy storage
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and negotiation abilities
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex information effectively
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and unstructured environment
  • High energy level, self-motivated and innovative
  • Willing to work from the office in Chicago, Illinois
  • Interested individuals who have experience with early-stage energy storage development, familiarity with regulatory frameworks and a strong technical understanding of batteries are encouraged to apply
