Our client is a leading solar IPP with a global presence seeking a Senior Business Development Manager for their The Central Development Team.
The Team is at the forefront of their growth with the backing of a number of internal functional teams (structured finance, financial modelling, legal, technical).
Responsibilities
- Identifying and originating solar-related opportunities in multiple jurisdictions and market segments
- Building business plans from scratch for countries in which they have no presence
- Business plan execution: platform/company acquisition, project/pipeline acquisition, co-development agreements, hiring, integration plan, tax/legal structuring, structured finance, marketing/PR, country management until autonomous operations
- Developing strong external relationships with key stakeholders throughout the market (developers, financial advisors, project funders etc.)
- Project/pipeline/co-development execution: from opportunity origination to financial close, including contract negotiation and due diligence (tax, legal, technical) coordination and managing third party engagement
- Manage an auction process from identification and internal approvals to successful participation and then execution
- Manage and run financial models to assess the returns of multiple projects
- Able to negotiate the following contracts: Co-development Agreements, Land related Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, Engineering-Procurement- Construction contracts, Share Purchase Agreements, Asset Purchase Agreements, Investment Agreements
- Generating and understanding the company strategies, developing best business practices and originating relevant opportunities
- Reporting concisely and clearly to the Board on global developments
- Frequent travel
Requirements
- General understanding of the renewables industry, power markets and development
- Strong understanding of project finance, capital structuring, financial modeling, and financial indicators
- Strong understanding of general transaction management (managing internal resource/consultants/stakeholders, adhering to transaction timeline)
- Strong understanding of power project/real estate development (land, grid interconnection, permitting)
- Excellent project management skills with proven experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and cultures
- Bachelor’s degree ideally in sciences or engineering MBA or master’s in finance preferred (engineering masters also acceptable if coupled with financial experience)
- Additional spoken languages a must
- 5-10 years’ experience in either of infrastructure funds/PE with specific power/renewables experience, renewable energy developer, utility with specific focus on renewables in a similar/front end role
- Proven track record of: transaction management (multiple running in parallel), business development, working in multi-cultural/multi-discipline environments
- Delivering growth in a new market
- Managing a transaction team, internal resource (analysts)
- Financial structuring is desired
- Able to understand and operate complex financial models (building them from scratch is good to have but not required)
- Ability to evaluate and convey complex concepts/opportunities to others in an effective manner through persuasive communication, negotiating skills and clear presentation skills in both verbal and written contexts
- Excellent MS Office skills and in particular PowerPoint and Excel
- Excellent negotiation skills in various cultural environments and with various stakeholders
- Excellent project management skills
- Last but not least a hands on/proactive approach to business
