NextWave Partners are working exclusively with a dynamic renewables developer that is seeking a Development Engineer. The role will have the engineer work alongside Project Developers in a team structure to develop a portfolio of utility scale solar PV and battery storage solutions from project origination to the project monetization.
Development Engineers occupy a multi-faceted role and provide technical leadership for projects including identification of initial project locations, preliminary design, production forecasting, permitting, and the interconnection of projects.
Responsibilities
Continually seek new equipment and design methodologies for PV and energy storage systems
Support project acquisition due-diligence process
Utilize GIS based systems for site analysis and site selection
Support landowner contract negotiation through the provision of site feasibility feedback and the creation of external collateral such as site maps
Identify appropriate interconnection points on the grid, submit interconnection requests to the applicable utility/ISO/RTO, interpret interconnection study results and negotiate with the utility to identify economic interconnection solutions
Creation of preliminary layouts and single line diagrams in AutoCAD, along with accompanying production forecasts in PV Syst
Supporting Permitting including land use and zoning (typically Conditional Use Permit / Special Use Permit) via county planning and zoning authorities, as well as any state or federal permits as may be necessary (e.g. VA DEQ Permit By Rule)
Maintain a strong understanding of the technical requirements for specific projects, as well as industry trends in design, engineering solutions, equipment types, and technical risks
Support the project marketing process by answering technical due diligence questions from potential customers, including working with 3rd party independent engineers to verify technical assumptions
Support the modeling of project economics by supplying technical model inputs
Perform cost/benefit analysis of design and technology variants to optimize economic and performance outcomes
Compile engineering submittals for proposals
Management of 3rd party engineering consultants, as needed
Develop and maintain project costing models
Manage NTP handoff to internal and external EPC teams’
Required Skills and Experience
Education: University Degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Structural, or Mechanical)
Experience: Minimum of 2 years working in the engineering of utility scale solar projects in the US.
Software Experience required: ArcGIS (or similar), AutoCAD, PV Syst (or similar)
Broad technical understanding of solar project development, including the ability to perform cost-benefit analyses of design variants to optimize economic outcomes
Understanding of the NEC, NESC, relevant electrical codes, building codes, and permitting procedures for large scale solar projects
Ability to interpret construction drawings and project documentation for technical requirements
