Job Description
esVolta is an innovative industry leader in development, design, construction, financing, and management of advanced energy storage projects. We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and commercially minded Assistant General Counsel to partner with the Chief Legal Officer to manage the legal function of the company and to provide legal support for special projects and strategic initiatives.
The Assistant General Counsel will provide complex legal guidance and advice for the company. In this position, the Assistant General Counsel will provide legal counsel on various commercial issues relevant to esVolta's business including, operations, commercial matters, financings, project development, general corporate matters, real estate matters, M&A, regulatory and litigation matters, and other major projects and initiatives. This position reports to the Chief Legal Officer and is located remotely.


  • Lead projects of significant importance to the Company from a legal, risk, value or policy perspective.
  • Manage members of the legal team to deliver on priorities for the business.
  • Resolve legal matters, arising out of the Company's businesses, including various renewables projects and transactions.
  • Provide and manage legal support on major transactions, including financings, corporate restructurings and M&A transactions.
  • Partner with the EPC Team on strategic procurement initiatives, including framework agreement negotiations.
  • Provide quality, timely legal advice to management for day-to-day matters and major ongoing projects.
  • Oversee the drafting of legal documents, such as contracts, corporate governance documents or other legal documents, and lead negotiations.
  • Work to establish professional relationships with key stakeholders within and outside the Company related to areas of subject matter expertise.
  • Manage outside counsel to maximize efficiency, including managing litigation matters through external litigation counsel.
  • Lead and/or serve on committees, special projects or other assignments as directed to further departmental goals.
  • Assist in developing and implementing company legal policies, processes, and standards.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Minimum of 12+ years of experience practicing law
  • Licensed to practice law in California, New York, Texas, or licensed to practice in any state in the US and eligible for comity

Compensation and Location
Compensation: The anticipated annual salary plus bonus range for this position is listed below. The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.

Assistant General CounselSalary $250,000 - $265,000Bonus 30%

· Flexible, option to work-from-home with periodic office visits for in-person engagement or to work from company offices in Newport Beach. For work-from-home option, must have a dedicated work space and strong internet connectivity.
· Requires ability to travel to company offices, project sites and business meetings as needed.
