About the Role

We are working with a leading renewable energy developer with a large presence across the Asia region. As part of their growth plans in the region they are looking for a Senior Project Developer to lead development of hydropower projects across Asia (primarily South Asia).

Requirements:

  • Business Development
    • Develop an in-depth understanding of the region's power markets and opportunities for hydropower as well as multi-technology renewable opportunities as natural components of the hydropower opportunity.
    • Make hybridisation a fundamental element for all projects in development in strong reciprocal co-operation with the Project Development Wind and Solar department.
    • Identify and nurture relationships with local/regional developers, brokers, banks, contractors, suppliers etc. to identify hydro power opportunities.
    • Identify, screen, evaluate and acquire new business and project opportunities together with the local business development team, including:
      • Project assessment and due diligence
      • Project specific financial models and investment memos
      • Technical solutions assessment with technical teams
      • Risk assessments related to the projects, including real estate risks, political risks, permitting and environmental risks, and financial risks and corresponding mitigation strategies.
    • Together with the hydropower development team, negotiate with prospective sellers and partners and establish project development or acquisition agreements.
    • Identify key competence areas to develop across clients development organization to enable local hydropower development team to take an increasingly leading and autonomous role in project origination, development, and structuring. Establish and implement such competency development plan.

  • Project Development
    • Support or lead project development and structuring of secured projects under development, including
      • Land acquisition and land assessment
      • Interconnection
      • Permits, licenses and authorizations
      • Power purchase agreements or other offtake arrangements
      • Implementation/concession agreements
      • Yield, capex, opex and other relevant input parameters
      • Business case.
    • Support the processes of project finance and execution preparations for the projects.
    • Support process of setting up project organizations when applicable.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Engineering, Law or other relevant fields, MBA a plus
  • 10+ years total relevant professional experience to include 3- 4 years' experience in business development and/or project finance/operations and 2-3 years' experience in, or closely working with, renewable energies in deal structure, project development and/or sales
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Power Purchase Agreements, grid connections, permitting requirements, M&A processes, project finance and financial modelling
  • Master's Degree in Finance/Commerce/Law an advantage
  • Fluent in local language, in English (both written and spoken), and an additional language beneficial
  • Strong negotiation skills
