About the Company:
We are working with a global private equity fund specializing in renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and the energy transition. A sizeable multi-billion dollar fund who partners with visionary management teams and stakeholders to accelerate decarbonization and build long-term value. As part of their continued expansion in Asia, they are seeking an accomplished investment director to head their Japan operations.
About the Role:
The Investment Director - Japan will lead the investment strategy and execution in Japan, with a core focus on renewable energy (solar, wind, storage, hydrogen) and critical infrastructure assets (power, transport, digital, utilities). This individual will play a central role in identifying, structuring, and managing investments, as well as building relationships with developers, government agencies, utilities, and institutional partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Originate and lead investments across renewable energy and infrastructure sectors in Japan
- Build and manage relationships with developers, asset owners, regulators, utilities, advisors, and financial institutions
- Oversee deal execution, including due diligence, structuring, negotiations, and closing
- Develop and implement value creation plans in collaboration with portfolio company management
- Drive policy engagement and regulatory understanding related to Japan's energy transition goals
- Hire and mentor a local investment team, fostering a culture of performance and integrity
- Represent the fund locally and contribute to global strategy as part of the senior leadership team
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of experience in private equity, project finance, investment banking, or infrastructure development
- Proven track record of closing energy or infrastructure deals in Japan
- Strong network across the Japanese energy, infrastructure, and financial ecosystems
- Deep understanding of Japan's regulatory and policy frameworks in the energy and infrastructure sectors
- Bilingual proficiency in Japanese and English (business fluency required)
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building capability
- Advanced degree in business, finance, engineering, or a related field (MBA preferred)
