About the Role

I am currently working with a client that brings exciting and innovative enterprise software concepts to life. Backed by leading environmental scientists and passionate software developers, they inject innovation into environmental reporting by creating solutions that every organisation, and every person can use.

As advisors, their team of scientists (and foresters) consult to governments, NGOs and developing countries as well as collaborate with the CSIRO to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. They are internationally recognised for their expertise in greenhouse gas inventory systems for the land sector.


As a SaaS company, they create software solutions that package the complex data modelling and scientific calculations that underpin their consulting expertise, into easy to use software solutions.



Essential Requirements:



  • Proven experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer or similar role

  • Ability to produce efficient, extensible code based on test-driven design principles and according to requirement specifications

  • Experience in Cloud-based software development/deployment (we work with the Google Cloud Platform but any Cloud experience will suffice)

  • Experience in at least one of the following software development languages (Python, Golang, C++ and/or JavaScript) and frameworks/systems associated with these languages. Willingness to rapidly learn new languages.

  • Understanding of (for junior developers)/experience in (senior developers) Application Programming Interface (API) development principles including Open Standards such as the Open API Specification/Swagger; RESTful Web services development, testing, documentation and deployment; and implementation of security protocols such as OAuth2.0/JWT.

  • Basic knowledge of (for junior developers)/experience in (senior developers) commonly used SQL queries and performant database development, preferably PostgreSQL and BigQuery (but any database technology is fine). An understanding of Big Data principles would be great.

  • Experience in source control use (GitHub preferably)



Nice-to-have:

  • Agile development principles

  • CI/CD pipelines - building and maintaining

  • Automated test development

  • Experience with developing scientific simulation models (especially in C++) as well as an understanding of geospatial concepts, standards and systems, such as Open Geospatial Webservice Protocols (e.g. WMS), GIS etc.

  • Domain knowledge in environmental science

  • Experience with or understanding of Geographic Information Systems and spatial data analysis methods
