About the Role

One of our clients, a leading global renewable development company globally that done operational, and Construction in renewables. This role is located in Sydney - Hybrid, and you will be working with a strong team in renewable focus on Solar , BESS.

As a Legal Counsel specializing in renewable energy, you will play a crucial role in providing legal support across all phases of renewable energy projects, including development, procurement, construction, operation & maintenance, and project finance. Your primary focus will be on solar and wind energy projects. This role requires a qualified lawyer with specific experience in renewable energy to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, mitigate risks, and facilitate the successful execution of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Legal Compliance: Ensure that renewable energy projects comply with all applicable laws, regulations, permits, and licenses related to environmental, land use, and energy.

  • Contract Review and Drafting: Review, draft, and negotiate various contracts, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), construction contracts, operation and maintenance agreements, and finance agreements.

  • Risk Mitigation: Identify legal risks and propose strategies to mitigate them, including risk assessment and mitigation in project agreements.

  • Project Development: Provide legal support during the project development phase, including land acquisition, permitting, and zoning matters.

  • Procurement Support: Assist in the procurement of equipment, materials, and services required for renewable energy projects, ensuring compliance with legal standards.

  • Construction Phase: Offer legal guidance during the construction phase, including contract management and dispute resolution.

  • Operation & Maintenance: Provide ongoing legal support for the operation and maintenance of renewable energy facilities, including contract management, compliance, and dispute resolution.

  • Project Finance: Work closely with the finance team to secure project financing, including reviewing and negotiating financing agreements and ensuring compliance with lender requirements.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, regulatory authorities, and other stakeholders to facilitate project success.

  • Legal Research: Stay updated on legal developments in the renewable energy sector and provide insights and guidance to the organization

Requirements

  • Law Degree: A bachelor's or master's degree in law from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum 3 years of PQE

  • Renewable Energy Experience: Minimum of 3 of experience in renewable energy law, with a strong focus on solar and wind energy projects.

  • Project Lifecycle Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of the full project lifecycle, from development to operation, with experience in relevant legal aspects at each stage.

  • Contract Negotiation Skills: Proficiency in drafting and negotiating complex legal agreements, including PPAs, construction contracts, and finance agreements.

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with the regulatory landscape and compliance requirements specific to renewable energy projects.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess legal risks and propose effective solutions.

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.

  • Ethical Standards: High ethical standards and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding legal and professional ethics
