About the Role

Imaginative and experienced SaaS/SW Product Manager needed to redefine how business software development is done in the no/low-code hybrid work era. My client has raised a $75M Series B in 2022 to scale-up teams across the globe from USA to SE Asia. Here, you will be an essential part of our vision to turn 750M+ Excel users into software builders in collaboration with developers and data gurus.

My client's 's flagship platform brings the power of Excel to the business software development stack in a no-code way, and supercharges it with deep versioning control, automated testing, model lifecycle governance, and more. This Product can can …

(a) take an existing or new Excel file (handling millions of formulas and cells)

(b) turn it into code with one-click ease in seconds, and

(c) connect logic inside Excel to apps via a REST API or as a native function (e.g. SQL, Python, R, etc.).

You will lead a cross-functional and geographically distributed team whose mission is to build the GitHub for Excel. Developers have used and evolved collaboration and knowledge/code sharing tools for decades to further their craft. Spreadsheet builders also build logic/calculations that run business operations globally across all industries. Your mission is to bring the capabilities of collaborative / community development that programmers have enjoyed - to Excel users!

To achieve this, you will need to (non-exhaustive list that we expect you to rewrite):

Bring as many of the wonderful capabilities that developers take for granted to the Excel users' ecosystem (Excel file = source code) e.g., actionable version control, understandable file differences, change tracking, Excel "model" (i.e. code) review, etc. etc.

Reimagine how we enable regulated industries (e.g. financial services) to meet their governance and compliance requirements for managing their Excel models in an automated and pragmatic way

Most importantly, we need to scale these features useably across tens of thousands of files scattered across multiple teams in today's complex enterprise workflow and processes.

Build corresponding product capabilities to deliver these challenging outcomes

Responsibilities

Defining your product area's vision, value proposition, and unique differentiation business strategy and KPIs to achieve those goals, alongside the prioritized roadmap, user stories of the user journey with UI sketches and required front-end and back-end features/ capabilities that developers will implement.

We are predominantly a remote working team with teams spread across Los Angeles to Japan. Thus, a core expectation of the role will be for PMs to create UI sketches/mocks as part of the user stories to ensure clear communication with the engineering teams.

We do operate on agile 2-week sprint cycles, but we don't have the luxury of physically being next to the rest of the team. Hence, we need PMs to be accountable for detailed written communications with clear specifications of expectations for the developers who will unlikely be in the same city (and likely with English as the second language).

Your Product Management career can include paths for …

True ownership: Our product is built to truly be a platform i.e., we expect others to build applications and successful businesses on top. We have a track record of incubating new products and go-to-market strategies to become their own businesses. If your career aspiration to move beyond functional expertise and run a business - you will have opportunities to do that.

Geographic flexibility: Our customers and teams are concentrated in the US and SE Asia time zones, with an initial sales beachhead in Europe. As long as you can make these work - you will have location flexibility. For the right candidates, we may even be able to sponsor work visas (not guaranteed).

Team leadership: As we grow the business, you will have the opportunity to lead and hire other Product Managers. We are looking for the best people to bring on the team, not specific boxes to fill. We welcome PMs with diversity of experiences and seniority: if you're interested in the mission - please reach out and we can figure something out!
