Our Client

A globally known solar company in SEA. They develop, finance and operate on-site (captive) solar projects for commercial and industrial clients, allowing them to enjoy cheaper, cleaner electricity, without incurring any of the upfront capital expenditure

Their team is made up of experienced investment, strategy and renewable energy development professionals readily equipped to support energy requirements.

Purpose:

  • Support the organisation develop and implement a corporate Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) with a particular focus on occupational health and safety (OHS) and in accordance with Good International Industry Practice
  • Lead and manage the HSE function to develop strategies, policies and management plans across the organisation.
  • Build organisation knowledge and professional capability to drive continuous improvement in HSE and make the organisation a leader in HSE management. This will require the incumbent to work closely with wider teams to build capacity and ensure skills and knowledge transfer.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of the organisation's HSE obligations with a particular focus on H&S requirements in the Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) agreed with investors / lenders.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • To take responsibility within the organisation for the overall performance of the company in terms of HSE matters, including HSE strategic planning and policy implementation.
  • To develop and implement an ESMS, with a particular focus on OHS as well as environmental and social matters.
  • Accountable for the development and implementation of the corporate health and safety management system (as part of the ESMS) including conducting OHS risk assessments and developing site level OHS management plans and emergency preparedness and response plans, working directly with contractors as required and monitoring and reviewing the performance of implementation.
  • Lead on the development of a culture of HSE awareness across the company's operations and teams including at senior management and board level.
  • To build capacity and provide training to all relevant teams / personnel in the company responsible for HSE matters; advising on resourcing needs and developing training strategies to ensure the continual development of professional competence and excellence.
  • Engage and manage external technical advisors appointed to improve environment, social, health and safety management systems
  • Continually train and support teams/personnel and contractors that have responsibilities/duties for implementing the company's ESMS
  • Collation and presentation of information to support reporting of HSE matters to the Board quarterly.
  • Collation and presentation of information to support reporting of HSE matters to the ESG Committee including demonstrating compliance with ESAP requirements
  • Represent, together with other relevant teams/representatives, the organisation externally as spokesperson on all HSE related matters

  • Develop effective HSE operational procedures and practices across the organisation including contractors.
  • Develop a professional and effective team to implement the organisation ESMS.
  • Implement identified actions within the ESAP to the required standards and timelines.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders on HSE matters.
  • Successfully deliver key projects and initiatives to agreed standard and timelines.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Demonstrable HSE knowledge and experience (minimum 8 years) and the ability to influence and direct decisions at a senior level.
  • Qualified to degree level in relevant HSE subject.
  • Significant experience in Health and Safety and Environmental and Social management across multiple business divisions in accordance with International Finance Corporation (IFC) standards and Good International Industry Practice.
  • Strong leadership qualities and capable of directing, developing and motivating teams across multiple locations.
  • Demonstrable experience in working proactively and constructively, including training, to contractors to achieve continual HSE performance improvements over time.
  • Knowledge of waste management, supply chain risk management including forced labour risk management, and stakeholder engagement and grievance management is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of community relations and development in South East Asia
  • Effective communicator with excellent persuasive and interpersonal skills and demonstrable experience in supporting and mentoring staff to build technical HSE capacity.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent reporting writing and presentation skills.
  • Results focussed with the resilience to deliver in a challenging environment.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the SEA region.
