An Investment Management firm is seeking an Investment Principal to head up its East Africa Region. This role will be responsible for the origination of fund-fit deals, financial evaluations and transaction quality control including negotiation, execution, post-investment portfolio monitoring and exit.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Undertaking deal origination, evaluation and structuring for the Company and its funds under management in all its respects, including the preparation and presentation of deals from initial review through to the preliminary investment memorandum
  • Attending to all closing requirements in respect of approved deals;
  • Providing the Company and its investment committee with project finance and growth equity information, research, insight, deal flow, expert analysis and networking contacts
  • Evaluating, negotiating, and executing transactions, including active portfolio value addition, directorships that assist in implementation of corporate governance disciplines in investee companies and structured disposals;
  • Assisting with the raising of capital commitments from both local and international investors
  • Assisting in strengthening co-investment partnerships and regional networks
  • Participating in weekly investment review meetings, investment committee meetings, executive management committee meetings and quarterly investor advisory board meetings;
  • Supporting in the delivery and execution of the fund’s mandate and strategy

Requirements & Qualifications

  • University Degree from a recognised University
  • An MBA qualification is preferable
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Experience in a transaction environment, preferably energy project finance and/or private equity in growth businesses;
  • Experience of structuring, negotiating and reviewing investment proposals;
  • Comfortable communicating with all levels of management internally and externally;
  • Strong numerical, analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Market and regulatory knowledge of and an active interest in investing in developing countries
