NextWave is working with a leading global investment manager focused on infrastructure and real estate who is seeking an experienced investment professional to complement their current investment team in the US. The Investment Director will be responsible for driving the systematic identification and origination of opportunities within the strategic investment parameters of the business, with a particular focus on the renewable energy sector. In addition, the successful candidate will lead the execution of equity investments with a focus on wind, solar and energy storage opportunities.

It is expected that the Investment Director will be able to develop opportunities through existing relationships and contribute to a differentiated positioning of our client’s proposition in the marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivating an existing network of renewable energy market contacts – and growing this network in tandem with colleagues – which is at the forefront of new energy and energy- related themes and enhances our client’s profile in the US renewable power market
  • Contributing thought leadership to the company’s business perspectives on wholesale power markets, regulation and power price risk management
  • Originating potential investment opportunities in renewable energy infrastructure
  • Managing the structuring and completion of investments (predominantly acquisitions but may also include greenfield investments, refinancings and disposals) efficiently and at all times in accordance with the firm’s deal execution processes
  • Undertaking reviews of investment economics including appointing, managing and questioning due diligence advisers and reviewing and questioning outputs from underlying project financial models
  • Reviewing and negotiating investment-related documentation such as sale and purchase agreements, shareholder agreements subcontracts and financing documents; and reviewing (where appropriate) existing agreements (e.g. subcontracts) for commercial logic, red flags and adequacy
  • Representing the company in meetings with vendors, acquisition partners, co-shareholders, advisers, financiers and contractors on transactions
  • Contributing to the thought leadership and strategic initiatives around energy and energy- related opportunities
  • Leading presentations of investment opportunities to the Investment Committee
  • On a selective basis monitoring investments, including potentially representing the company on Boards of investee companies
  • Participating fully in all reporting processes
  • Proactively make available know-how to other team members through line management and active participation in training (informal and formal); and contributing to the enhancement and efficiency of transaction processes
  • Assisting with fundraising and reporting to investors as required

Requirements

  • Significant prior experience working within the renewable energy sector with relevant experience in leading investments in assets at various stages of development
  • A network of relationships in the renewable energy industry that is relevant to the investment activities of the company
  • Strong commercial acumen with energy sector relevance, through an understanding of multiple business drivers from the perspectives of a broad range of stakeholders
  • Strong marketing / sales skills and solid analytical abilities
  • Concrete evidence of strategic thinking, with an ability to talk convincingly about macro trends in the energy market and how they may create opportunity and risk – and the challenges of converting opportunity into investments.
  • Results-oriented mindset and ability to demonstrate this through a track record of deal transactions and value enhancement
  • High levels of motivation and focus to make things happen within a lean and non-hierarchical environment with a fast-paced, high-growth culture
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to inspire, influence and persuade others, and demonstrate effective teamwork across divisional and geographic boundaries
  • Strong presenter, comfortable in dealing with demanding set of audience including senior management teams
  • Highly organised, systematic and forward-looking approach to undertaking key priorities
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required
